We urge the Greek Government to change the previous policy of voting in UN and join the majority of nations that support the creation of a nuclear free world, voting every time in UN for the elimination of nuclear weapons.
November 17, 2016
Greek Prime minister Mr Alexis Tsipras
Minister of foreign affairs Mr Nikos Kontzias
On October 27 2016 the UN General Assembly adopted an historical resolution to ban nuclear weapons in 2017, as recognized by the Humanitarian Pledge.
Unfortunately the Greek government, following the policy of previous governments voted NO to the UN resolutions
We urge the Greek government to change the existing policy that against the strong will of the Greek citizens, the declared position of all political parties and the strangle of Peace movement and take concrete actions for a Nuclear free world.
As we managed to prohibit
Biological Weapons Banned 1972
Chemical Weapons Banned 1993
Land mines Banned 1997
Cluster bombs Banned 2008
The adopted resolution L.41 to convene negotiations in 2017 on a “legally binding instrument to prohibit nuclear weapons, leading towards their total elimination”will continue to work in UN and we urge the Greek government to stay aligned to the majority of the world’s nations and take the right steps to support the prohibition of nuclear weapons as a first step towards elimination.
