"Τουρισμός και Νερό :
Προστασία του κοινού μας μέλλοντος“ είναι το σύνθημα της
Παγκόσμιας Ημέρας Τουρισμού του τρέχοντος έτους στις 27 Σεπτεμβρίου. Οι
Naturefriends δηλώνουν τη στήριξη της βιώσιμης διαχείρισης των υδάτων .
Το
νερό θα καταναλώνεται, όπου βρίσκονται τουρίστες. Σε όλο τον κόσμο, το 1% του
διαθέσιμου νερού καταναλώνεται στον τουριστικό τομέα. Συνολικά μιλώντας, αυτό
δεν φαίνεται υπερκατανάλωση? Αλλά σε τοπικό επίπεδο - ειδικά όταν πρόκειται για
περιοχές όπου οι υδατικοί πόροι είναι περιορισμένοι, αυτό έχει σοβαρές
επιπτώσεις στους ανθρώπους και στο περιβάλλον. Λαμβάνοντας υπόψη το παράδειγμα
της Ζανζιβάρης : Σύμφωνα με έρευνα του TourismConcern, η κατανάλωση νερού σε
πολυτελή ξενοδοχεία ανέρχεται σε 3.195 λίτρα ανά δωμάτιο ξενοδοχείου την ημέρα.
Ένα μέσο νοικοκυριό στη Ζανζιβάρη χρειάζεται περίπου 93 λίτρα ανά ημέρα.
Λαμβάνοντας υπόψη το παράδειγμα της Γκόα: Ένας φιλοξενούμενος σε ένα ξενοδοχείο
πέντε αστέρων χρησιμοποιεί περισσότερα από 1.700 λίτρα νερό την ημέρα, σε
σύγκριση με 14 λίτρα διαθέσιμα ανά κάτοικο .
Το
νερό είναι ένα ανθρώπινο δικαίωμα.
Η
μόλυνση και η σπατάλη του νερού είναι το ζήτημα της δίκαιης κατανομής του. Η
έλλειψη νερού που υφίστανται οι τοπικοί πληθυσμοί συχνά επιδεινώνεται από τον
τουρισμό. Η έλλειψη νερού σημαίνει την έλλειψη των προς το ζην - επειδή
υποδηλώνει ότι δεν υπάρχει ούτε αρκετό πόσιμο νερό, ούτε αρκετό νερό για την
άρδευση των καλλιεργειών . Ακόμη και στην Ευρώπη, πάνω από δύο εκατομμύρια
άνθρωποι δεν έχουν πρόσβαση σε καθαρό νερό. Σε αυτό το πλαίσιο κινείται η
πρωτοβουλία «right2water. ( http://www.right2water.eu/ ) που διοργανώνεται στην Ευρώπη: Η
ζήτηση αφορά στο ανθρώπινο δικαίωμα στο νερό και στην αποχέτευση τα οποία
πρέπει να προβλέπονται από τη νομοθεσία και στο νερό το οποίο πρέπει να
προστατεύεται ως “δημόσιο αγαθό“. Μέχρι
στιγμής, πάνω από 1,8 εκατομμύρια άνθρωποι έχουν δηλώσει την υποστήριξή τους
στο αίτημα αυτό.
Με
την ευκαιρία της Παγκόσμιας Ημέρας Τουρισμού, ο Παγκόσμιος Οργανισμός Τουρισμού
(UNWTO) καλεί την τουριστική βιομηχανία να αναλάβει την ευθύνη της για την
αειφόρο χρήση του νερού και την προστασία των σχετικών με το νερό
οικοσυστήματων στον τομέα του τουρισμού. " Καθώς γιορτάζουμε το 2013 ως το
έτος που τα Ηνωμένα Έθνη ανακήρυξαν ως “Διεθνές Έτος της συνεργασίας για τα
ύδατα“, καλούμε όλους εκείνους που εμπλέκονται στον τομέα του τουρισμού να
συμμετάσχουν στην εκστρατεία για να συνεχίσουμε να προτείνουμε πρωτοποριακές
λύσεις για να διασφαλίσουμε ότι τουρισμός συμβάλλει στη βιώσιμη πρόσβαση στους
υδάτινους πόρους σε όλο τον κόσμο » , είπε ο Taleb Rifai, Γενικός Γραμματέας του
UNWTO.
Προστασία
υγροβιότοπων
Πολλοί
από τους πιο δημοφιλείς τουριστικούς προορισμούς βρίσκονται κοντά σε υδατικά
συστήματα – ακτές, ποτάμια, λίμνες – τα οποία είναι σημαντικά για την πανίδα
και τη χλωρίδα και ζωτικής σημασίας για την ισορροπία του νερού. « Διατήρηση
της φύσης σε συνδυασμό με την υπεύθυνη ανάπτυξη του τουρισμού παρέχει το
υπόβαθρο για τη διατήρηση των οικοτόπων που βρίσκονται κοντά σε νερό - με άλλα
λόγια, το νερό θεωρείται ως πηγή ζωής ", υπογραμμίζει ο Andrea
Lichtenecker, Αναπληρωτής Διευθυντής της Διεθνούς Περιβαλλοντικής Οργάνωσης

Αξιοσημείωτα είναι τα παραδείγματα βιώσιμης,
ψυχαγωγικής χρήση του νερού τα οποία αναφέρονται στο πλαίσιο της εκστρατείας (http://www.water-trails.net/ ) από τους Naturefriends. Αυτή η
εκστρατεία επιδιώκει την ευαισθητοποίηση για τα ειδικά χαρακτηριστικά και τη
σημασία των υδάτων και των οικοτόπων που βρίσκονται κοντά στο νερό, και συνεπώς
επιδιώκει να εμπνεύσει τον σεβασμό έναντι του νερού.

“Tourism
and Water: Protecting Our CommonFuture”is the motto of this year’s World
Tourism Day on 27 September. Naturefriends support sustainable water management.
Water will be consumed,
wherever tourists are on the move. Worldwide, one hundredth of the available
water flows into the tourism sector. Globally speaking, this does not appear
overmuch; but in regional terms – especially when it comes to areas where water
resources are scarce, this has a tangible impact on people and the
environment.Taking the example of Zanzibar: According to TourismConcern, water consumption in luxury hotels amounts to3’195 litres
per hotel room and day. An average household on the island needs approximately
93 litresper day. Taking the example of Goa: One guest in a five-star hotel uses more
than1’700 litres of water per day, compared with 14 litres available per
inhabitant.
Water
is a human right
Added to the ecologicalfallout
caused by sewagewater andthe waste ofdrinking water is the issue of equitable
distribution .The water shortage suffered by local populations is frequently
exacerbated by tourism.Lack of water means lack of livelihood – becauseit
implies that there is neither enough drinking water nor enough water for crop
irrigation. Even in Europe, more than
two million people are without access to clean water. It is against this background
that the “right2water”
citizens’ initiative(http://www.right2water.eu/) is being organised in Europe: The demandis
for the human right to water and sanitation to be anchored in law and for water
to be protected as a public good. So far, more than 1.8 millionpeople have
declared their support to this demand.
On the occasion of World
Tourism Day, UNWTO – the World Tourism Organisation – calls on the tourism
industry to shoulder its responsibility for the sustainable use of water and
the protection ofwater-related ecosystems in the field of tourism. “As we
celebrate the 2013 United Nations International Year of WaterCooperation, I
urge all those involved in the tourism sector to join our global World Tourism
Day campaign and continue to devise innovate solutions to ensuring tourism
contributes to sustainable access to water resources worldwide”, said TalebRifai,
Secretary General of UNWTO.
Protecting
water habitats
Many of the most popular
tourism destinations are situated close to bodies of water – ranging from
coasts via river and lake landscapes to moors – all of which are also prime
habitats for fauna and flora and of vital importance to the water balance. “Conservation
of naturecombined with the responsible development of tourism provides the
bedrock for the maintenance of habitats in and near water – in other words for
water as a source of life”, underlines Andrea Lichtenecker, Deputy-Manager of
Naturefriends International.
Noticeable examples of a
sustainable, recreational use of water habitats are highlighted by
Naturefriends in the context of the Water:Ways campaign (http://www.water-trails.net/).This campaign is also supposedto raise
awareness of the special features and the importance of water bodies and of habitats
situated close to water, and thus to inspire a sense of respect vis-à-vis
nature.
